Photography Crop Calculator

Calculate sensor crop factor equivalency for focal length and background blur

Sensor Crop Equivalence Calculator

Calculate identical framing (field of view) and identical depth-of-field background blur across different sensor formats.

Equivalent Lens Specification on Full Frame 35mm (36 × 24 mm)
32.7mm f/1.2

Yields identical field of view and identical background blur (bokeh thickness).

About Photography Crop Calculator

Frequently Asked Questions

Why does crop factor affect aperture equivalency?

While f/1.8 delivers the same light intensity per square millimeter on any sensor, it produces shallower depth of field on larger sensors. To get the same total background blur as a Full Frame f/2.8, an APS-C lens must shoot at f/1.8.

Does a crop sensor make a telephoto lens zoom further?

No, it simply crops out the outer edges of the image circle, giving the visual appearance of a narrower, more magnified field of view.
